Unit Numerals 1329: Worn by all Scouts and Scouters indicating their current Unit and their current Boy Scouts of America Council, which they are a member.
Early Teens Council and Districts made Metal Numbers, approximately 25mm round and worn on the points of the Coat Collars.
1914 – 1920 Metal Numbers and Letters worn on the Scout Coat Lapel.
1914 – 1928 Metal Numbers and Letters worn on the Scout Leader’s Coat Lapel.
From 1914 – 1920’s Red Felt Square with White Felt number sewn on left sleeve.
1921 – 1926 White felt square with smaller Red silk-screened Square and White Numbers.
Late 1920’s – Early 1940’s – 1952 Red Felt Square with White Embroidered Number.
1937 – 1947 Red Felt Square with White Embroidered Number and Silver Border for 25 Year Veteran Troop.
Early 1940’s – mid 1952 Red Felt Rectangle with White Embroidered Number.
1952 – mid 1960’s Red Rectangle with White Number, Fully Embroidered with Horizontal Red Stitching Background
Mid 1960’s – Current Red Rectangle with White Number, Fully Embroidered with Vertical Red Stitching Background.
1992 – Current Red Rectangle with White Number on red Twill.
2008 – Current Red Rectangle with White Number on red Twill Cub Scouts and Venturing Only.
2008 – Current Tan Twill with Forrest Green Numbers Boy Scouts Only.
What is a Unit?
A Unit is the entity that conducts the Scouting programs for the chartered organization. The Unit consists of registered youth members and registered adult volunteers. A unit is a Pack, Troop, Crew, Ship, or Lab. Also, the Unit programs are administered by the unit committee. Therefore, the Unit Committee is appointed by the chartered organization.
