National Explorer Olympics Gold Award: Explorer Scout patches, pins, and Certificates given to Explorer Scouts for participation in event

The National Explorer Olympics was started in 1970 and occurred every other year at Colorado State University until 1982.

In 1982 it was held at Ohio State University. Unsure where it was held in 1984. In 1986 it was held at Colorado State.

The last event was held in 1986, in Vancover, Canada at the Worlds Fair.

After 1986, councils were encouraged to continue to run their own Explorer Olympics. The National Olympics ended.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) provides the nation’s youth program of character development and leadership training. A program helps young people be “Prepared. For Life.®” The Scouting organization membership is composed of approximately 2.2 million youth between the ages of 5 and 21. And approximately 800,000 volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories.

Since its inception in 1910, more than 130 million young youth have participated in the BSA’s youth programs. More than 35 million adult volunteers have helped carry out the BSA’s mission.

For over 100 years, the BSA program has helped create generations of leaders and outstanding citizens. Achieved by allowing all youth to explore their interests,  and serve their communities. Also discovering their talents through youth-led activities like hiking, camping, and volunteering.
