International Parade 1975 GSA Girl Scouts of all ages earn activity patches such as this for participating with their troops in this activity.

The beginning of Girl Scouts was started in 1912 in the Savannah, Georgia home of Juliette Low and was later chartered by the US Congress on March 16, 1950.

Empowering Girls
The mission of Girl Scouts USA is to discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. The girls grow in courage and strength through a variety of enriching experiences.  These are field trips, skill-building sports clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships.

Scouting for girls help girls to develop into their full individual potential; in relating to others with increase understanding, skill, and respect;. Girl Scouting develops values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership, and working with others as a team.

Levels of Girl Scouts

Young Girls join Girl Scouting according to their grade level in school:

  • Daisy Girl Scouts; K – 1st
  • Brownie: 2nd – 3rd
  • Junior; 4th – 5th
  • Cadettes; 6th – 8th
  • Seniors; 9th – 10th
  • Ambassadors; 11th – 12th
